Update Your Quicktime Player

Some people may experience problems viewing or listening to Quicktime movies. If your Quicktime Player or the Quicktime browser plugin starts, but it isn't displaying any video or playing sound, or its only playing video but no sound, this means you need to update your player. This problem occurs when your player is missing a software component that helps it display video or play sound.

Your Quicktime Player has a built-in feature that allows it to update itself, and install components that will allow you to watch or listen to Quicktime audio/video files. Follow the instructions below to update your player.

Open the Quicktime Control Panel

Open your Quicktime player. Go to the Edit pulldown menu, then locate Preferences at the bottom of the pulldown, and then Quicktime Preferences in the flyout menu. This will open the Quicktime Control Panel.

Run Update Check

In the Quicktime Control Panel, select Update Check from the pulldown menu. Update Check will contact the Apple web site to see if new player components are available for you to download.

Select Update and install additional QuickTime software. Click the Update button to proceed with updating. A new window may pop-up showing you what components it wants to install. Architecture Radio movies and audio recordings require MP4 and Sorenson components to play properly. Select these components from the list if they are available. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.

Restart your web browser once the update is done.
